The things I’ve noticed – yeah and most of it is due to computers and other geeky stuff. Significantly, it looks like I seldom come out from behind the pc and this website will probably be all about general geekiness – as the name indicates. I’m thinking basic fun stuff, but possibly some serious things also. good site for computer info, computer stuff at geek-sauce.com – Ideally items that I don’t need to share with you on my primary company site. The “black arts” of SEO, website design, WordPress. Customers never really want to know how you do what you do – they believe they do, nevertheless they really don’t LOL. If you have Windows 7, you probably want to make the program operate as fast as possible. For the most part, computers do not run it optimal speeds out of the box. Oftentimes, extra features make the software program run slower than it should. If you’ve had your computer for a while, you’ve probably downloaded many files and programs you’ve forgotten about and that could be slowing your system down. The following are some simple ways to speed up the performance of Windows 7.

Your computer will boot up faster if you disable certain features, such as sounds that you hear when booting up. Sounds such as this can slow down your computer, so you may want to go to Sound Settings and turn them off. If you do this, you won’t hear sounds when you change applications or boot up, but it won’t affect sounds you hear from websites or videos. Unless you have a need to have your computer recall your searching behavior, you could free up memory by disabling search indexing. There’s an option under Indexing Options where you can do this. Unless you use Active Desktop, you could free up memory on your computer by shutting it off. If there are websites you visit regularly, Active Desktop lets you see them on your desktop right away. You have to ask yourself if you’d rather have this capability or have your computer run faster. Most people don’t urgently need to see a web page from their desktop, though there are exceptions. Between bookmarking websites you visit frequently, and setting up one as your home page, you can still reach them fast enough. Windows 7 comes with certain default colors; by resetting your desktop background to a solid color, you’ll be freeing up memory. You have several options when you click on Desktop, and when you choose personalize you can choose your colors. Each feature that you disable frees up some memory, though if you only make a single change, the difference might not be noticeable.

Windows 7 provides you with a large number of fonts, many of which you’ll probably never use. The total number of fonts is over 100, however you will only use a handful of them at best. The fonts can actually cause software programs to stall like Microsoft Word for Windows. It also has an impact on booting up time when the computer has to load many fonts. Additional fonts are usually added by people who do not realize that it will slow the computer down. You can improve your computer’s boot time and performance are removing these fonts from your system. Make sure you do not remove fonts that are continuously used by you or others that are on your computer. When you delete the fonts, make sure that they are the ones that you do not use. There’s no magical solution to improve the speed of Windows 7, but by making a number of small changes you can make a noticeable difference. You have to weigh speed against the usefulness of various features and programs -don’t shut off or delete items that are genuinely helpful to you. Shutting down one program or feature might not make that much of a difference, but if you do everything you can to speed up Windows 7, the effect will be significant.
