Clayton First Responders Assemble Kits to Comfort Children in Crisis

Clayton’s youngest residents will soon receive an extra dose of care and comfort, thanks to a special partnership between local first responders, Walmart, and the nonprofit organization Kits4Kids.

On August 1, members of the Clayton Police Department and Clayton Fire Department joined forces with Walmart associates and the founders of Kits4Kids to assemble 250 trauma kits at the Clayton Walmart Supercenter. The kits are designed to support children who may be present during emergency calls, offering tools that help reduce fear and anxiety in moments of crisis.

Each kit includes thoughtfully selected items like ponchos, fidget toys, noise-canceling earplugs, and encouraging notes. These simple but meaningful tools help first responders calm and connect with children in stressful situations.

The Clayton Fire Department and Clayton Police Department each received 75 kits, which will now be available on fire trucks and in patrol vehicles across Town.

Kits4Kids was founded by two fathers, Kevin Gatlin and James Fisher-Davis, who saw the need to ease trauma for children involved in emergency situations. The nonprofit organization has received national recognition for its compassionate approach and community-driven model.
