Clayton Friends of the Library Host Spring Book Sale

Spring into reading with amazing deals and a fresh selection of books and movies. The Clayton Friends of the Library is excited to host its 2025 Spring Book Sale, offering thousands of gently-used materials at unbeatable prices.

Join the fun from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, March 1, in a new location — Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library’s meeting room (100 South Church Street). Choose from a vast collection of items for children, teens, and adults and fill a brown paper grocery bag, donated by Lowes Foods. It’s a great way to refresh the home library at just $15 per bag.

As a special treat, the Clayton Friends of the Library are raffling off a beautiful book-themed quilt. Raffle tickets are available for $20 each.

“The arrival of spring brings a renewed enthusiasm for everything, including reading,” said Ellen Andruzzi, President of the Clayton Friends of the Library. “Whether you’re picking out books for spring break, replacing well-loved favorites, or simply discovering something new, this sale is a great way to support the library and get people talking about all it offers.”

Regular reading is important for all ages. Library Manager Melissa Poole emphasized how it stimulates and exercises the brain. Not only does reading improve concentration and comprehension, but it builds vocabulary and general knowledge of the world around us.

“Plus, with warmer weather ahead, it’s a great excuse to grab a book and enjoy reading outside at one of Clayton’s many beautiful spots,” said Poole. “These sales give readers an affordable way to find new treasures for their shelves while also strengthening the library’s connection with the community. It’s always exciting to see families, book lovers, and new visitors come together and share their love of reading.”

Funds from the book sale directly benefit Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library’s programs and services, including the Summer Reading Challenge, Local Author Fair, and Storywalk®.
