Enjoy Every Moment of Spring Break in Clayton

Spring Break is approaching for Johnston County Public Schools, and the Town of Clayton is ready to offer families plenty of opportunities to make the most of it. From Saturday, April 12 through Sunday, April 20, take advantage of the time off to get outside, explore new places, and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Clayton has something for everyone with exciting options waiting to be discovered.
Families can kick off their Spring Break adventures at the newly built playground at Clayton Community Park (1075 Amelia Church Road), made possible by the 2019 Parks and Recreation Bond. This modern playground features swings, climbing walls, and slides, offering fun for kids of all ages.
At East Clayton Community Park (1774 Glen Laurel Road), Harmony Playground welcomes children of all abilities to play together in an inclusive space. The playgrounds at Municipal Park (325 McCullers Street) and other local parks also provide safe and accessible spots for children to run, play, and explore. And don’t forget about furry family members. East Clayton Dog Park (2027 Glen Laurel Road) is a great spot for families with dogs looking to enjoy the outdoors together.
“Parks are fantastic spaces where families can bond and create lasting memories,” said Lauren Lambert, Special Events and Marketing Coordinator for Clayton Parks and Recreation. “Clayton’s parks offer a welcoming environment for children to engage in activities, adults to relax, and everyone to take in the fresh air. Spring Break is a great time to enjoy these local treasures.”
Once the playground adventures wrap up, families can continue their outdoor fun with even more ways to explore Clayton. A walk or bike ride along the Clayton Riverwalk on the Neuse offers a scenic four-mile trail that runs alongside the river, providing beautiful views and a chance to immerse in nature. For something truly special, StoryWalk at East Clayton Community Park transforms reading into an interactive journey with pages from a children’s book placed along the trail, making it an exciting outdoor activity for the whole family.
To keep the fun going, Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library (100 South Church Street) offers a variety of lawn games, including ladder ball, bocce ball, and tower games, perfect for families of all skill levels. These activities let you enjoy warmer temperatures while spending quality time together.
When the weather turns, the library also has an impressive selection of board games to keep the entertainment going, making sure there’s always something to do, no matter the forecast.
“Our library is a great resource for families to learn, create, and play,” said Library Manager Melissa Poole. “During Spring Break, we have a variety of activities that encourage curiosity and creativity, giving families another reason to hang out and enjoy each other’s company.”
Poole also recommends picking up a book for some downtime. Popular reads for kids include Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Man, Cat Kid, and the Wings of Fire series. Whether families choose a physical copy or a digital version, the library staff are happy to help everyone find their next great read.
From outdoor exploration to indoor games, Clayton offers countless ways to make the most of Spring Break. For more information, including other opportunities that are available, visit townofclaytonnc.org.
