Meet Us Monthly – James Herron

Meet Us Monthly – James Herron

It’s the first Monday in May, and we’re proud to introduce Firefighter James Herron as this month’s #MeetUsMonthly feature. Herron has been with the Clayton Fire Department for about four months and is already making a positive impact.

On any given day, you’ll find Herron responding to fire and EMS calls, working to save lives and supporting the community in every way he can. His passion for helping others and his dedication to the job shine through in all he does.

Originally from Georgia, Herron grew up in a military family with his father serving in the Marines. “That gave me a lot of structure,” he shared. Herron earned his certifications – including technical rescue, hazmat, and EMT – from Johnston County Community College. He plans to further his education in fire science, which he said will enhance his understanding of fire behavior and how to predict its movement on the scene.

Herron’s inspiration for joining the fire service stems from a mix of childhood dreams, family influence, and his military upbringing. “Every little kid dreams of driving a fire truck,” he said. “But my uncle, who was also a firefighter, really inspired me. He passed away, so I’m doing this for him too. It’s my way of honoring him.”

As part of the Clayton Fire Department, Herron looks forward to building relationships with his fellow firefighters and the community. “I want to get to know the Town and be a part of helping everyone,” he explained.

When he’s not on duty, Herron enjoys working on cars, going to car shows, and volunteering with a nearby fire department.

We’re thrilled to have Herron as part of our team and look forward to seeing the many ways he continues to serve Clayton.
