Meet Us Monthly – Nicholas Bishop
It is the first Monday of February, and that means it’s time for another #MeetUsMonthly feature. This month, we’re spotlighting Firefighter Nicholas Bishop, who joined the Clayton Fire Department just over a month ago.
As a firefighter, Bishop is focused on fire suppression, responding to emergency calls, driving apparatus, and engaging with the community. With a few weeks under his belt, he’s settling into his role and embracing the opportunities that come with being part of the department.
Originally from Kinston in Lenoir County, Bishop grew up there before moving to Greene County where he currently resides. After graduating high school in 2019, he attended Wilson Community College’s Fire Academy, earning his certification just months later. Bishop began his fire service career with the City of Kinston Fire Department where he gained valuable experience for around five years.
What drew Bishop to the fire service? It stems from a deeply personal experience. He recalls helping his father during a difficult time with his health, which inspired him to extend that same care to others. “I felt like it was my calling to help people who needed it because I have the ability to. So, why not?”
Bishop acknowledges the challenges of the job, especially witnessing things that many people might never experience. “Some things are tough, like dealing with younger people or juveniles. But there are so many positives to it,” he says. “Being there for people on their worst day – and making it better – is what makes it all worth it.”
When he’s not working, Bishop stays busy running his own landscaping and lawn care company. He also enjoys spending time with his family, tinkering with cars, and exploring outdoor hobbies, like duck hunting, deer hunting, and fishing.
We’re thrilled to have Bishop as part of the Clayton Fire Department and can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll make in our community.
