Meet Us Monthly – Nicholas Campasano

It’s the first Monday in July, and we’re proud to introduce Master Firefighter Nicholas Campasano as this month’s #MeetUsMonthly feature. Campasano has been with the Clayton Fire Department for about five months and is already having a significant impact.

On any given day, you’ll find Campasano responding to fire and EMS calls, performing patient care, and engaging in specialized rescue operations. As a Master Firefighter, he also takes on additional responsibilities, such as leading technical rescue efforts and maintaining the fire trucks and equipment to keep them ready for action. “It’s always exciting to be part of a team that is so committed to helping others and solving problems,” said Campasano. “No day is ever the same, and that’s one of the things I love most about this job.”

Originally from New England, Campasano grew up in New Hampshire where his father worked as a firefighter. His journey in the fire service began while attending college in Maine – during which he worked for the local fire department for five years. After spending time in Raleigh and even returning to New England for a brief period, he and his wife decided to make North Carolina their home. “Clayton is an up-and-coming town with a progressive fire department and great leadership,” he shared. “There are endless possibilities here, and the people are incredibly friendly. It’s a great place to be a firefighter.”

Campasano’s job requires him to be versatile and adaptable from working on technical rescue teams to problem-solving during EMS calls. “Whether it’s fixing something in the station or responding to a fire, the goal is always to help. It’s about being that calm in the storm, especially on someone’s worst day,” he explained.

When asked about his favorite part of the job, Campasano added, “It sounds cliché, but helping people really is the best part. And it’s not just during emergencies. You’re the friendly face that people see in the community, and that connection is something special.”

Outside of work, Campasano is a proud father of three and enjoys spending time with his family, including their German Shepherd. In his free time, he likes to unwind with a round of golf. “Taking care of my kids is a full-time job in itself,” he laughed. “But when I do get some time to relax, golf is my go-to.”

While Campasano resides in southern Wayne County, his connection to the community is already strong. He looks forward to continuing to serve Clayton, building relationships with his fellow firefighters and helping out wherever he can.
