Fire safety is a lesson every family should know, and this year the Clayton Fire Department is turning learning into a fun and interactive experience. It is hosting a Fire Prevention Week Open House from 2 – 5 p.m., Sunday, October 5 at Clayton Fire Station One (325 West Horne Street). This free event gives children and adults a hands-on opportunity to learn how to stay safe in case of a fire while meeting the team who protects the community.
Guests can meet Sparky the Fire Dog and Marshal, the firefighter pup from Paw Patrol, explore a blow-up house with fire prevention tips, and visit a smoke house trailer to learn how to exit safely during a fire. Firefighters will also provide practical advice about smoke alarms, fire escape plans, and other ways to protect families.
In addition, attendees can watch demonstrations of fire safety equipment and ask questions about protecting their homes. Parking is available at the station, and all activities are designed to be interactive, educational, and enjoyable for children and adults alike.
Fire Prevention Week runs Sunday, October 5 through Saturday, October 11, and highlights the importance of fire safety for families nationwide. This year’s theme focuses on the dangers of lithium-ion batteries, which are often found in everyday items such as cell phones, scooters, and e-bikes. The Clayton Fire Department will share information on how to use these devices safely while continuing its mission to educate residents and promote preparedness.
