Clayton Firefighters Train for Rapid Response to Protect Each Other and the Community
The Clayton Fire Department has been holding Rapid Intervention Training, which focuses on preparing firefighters to rescue one another when something unexpected happens on the scene. It’s all about being ready for the unknown.
Firefighter Mayday data shows that emergencies can escalate within just minutes – whether due to getting lost in a smoke-filled structure, a sudden collapse, or a medical emergency. That’s why teamwork, rapid intervention, and CPR training are so important. They help keep every firefighter safe on the job.
Each year, approximately 60-100 firefighters lose their lives in the line of duty nationwide from causes ranging from cardiac events to traumatic injuries, according to the U.S. Fire Administration, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). In these moments, firefighters must be able to count on each other for a fast and effective response.
Ongoing training and education remain a top priority for the department, keeping our team ready to protect one another and the community.
