WHAT: Fraud Awareness Event

WHEN: 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 12

WHERE: (The Clayton Center) 111 East Second St., Clayton, NC 27520

WHO: Free and open to the public

Scams are happening more often and can fool people into giving away money or personal information. Even smart and cautious people can fall victim to a scam. Fraudsters attempt to scare or confuse their targets, and it’s not always easy to recognize what may be legitimate. In fact, people in the United States lost more than $10 billion to scams in 2023, according to the Federal Trade Commission, which is the highest amount ever reported.

To help keep our community knowledgeable, join us for a Fraud Awareness Event, beginning at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 12 at The Clayton Center (111 East Second Street). This free event is open to the public, but registration is required.

Attendees will learn how frauds and scams work and discover ways to avoid falling victim. The program includes a meet-and-greet, a short presentation, and a panel discussion featuring local experts.

Representatives from the Clayton Police Department, US Secret Service, Internal Revenue Service, and the State Employees’ Credit Union will share real examples, answer questions, and offer practical advice to protect personal information and finances.

Those interested in attending can register at claytonpolice.org/fraud.
